...of my car:
1) The stearing is scuppered. Completely and utterly. Apparently, normally, when the stearing joint goes, it goes in one particular direction. Mine has gone in every conceivable direction! (First time the mechanic's ever seen one gone that badly, from his tone of voice...)
2) I definitely have a blocked catalytic converter.

Something tells me 2 will be vastly more expensive to fix than 1...

Meantime, I'm rattling off work projects like they're going out of fashion here. Guess I'm setting out to prove that me working from home doesn't mean I don't get stuff done...

*hugs* hope fixing the car doesn't take too many of your pennies.

Me too. I already know the stearing's cost me just over £50 (most of which is labour - the part itself was about £15!). I have to do a phone round of all the exhaust places in Bristol in the morning to see who can do what for me, and if the answer's anywhere much over £50, I'm quitting while I'm behind and buying a new car cos it just won't be worth it.

I'd be cautious about that tone of voice. They practice it. The average mechanic can make a blown indicator bulb sound like the Wreck of the Hesperus.

But {{hugs}} re the car trouble.

*hugs back* As this guy would have my father to answer to were he to give me the run around, I'm a little more inclined to believe him than under other circumstances. Plus, he showed me the offending very junked and very VERY ex stearing joint and I'm now wondering how the HECK I got it to make the two right turns I did ask it to do last night...it was SOLID in that direction!
