Happy CHRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISMAS!
Dec. 24th, 2004 08:16 amYes, the spelling in the title's deliberate. If you know "Inanity over Christmas", by Madness, you'll get it. If you don't...well... yeah. *grins*
(Sorry, this is reaction to lack of sleep, migrane meds and a general feeling of demob-happy due to the small matter of a nice, long, clientless break...)
Anyhoo.
First up: For those of you waiting for "We Three Kings" (aka Rach's ID'verse Christmas fic), you're going to have to wait a bit longer. Like, 365 days. It's not going to get finished in time for posting tonight (or even over the holidays in general), so I'm going to hang on to it and finish it as *next* year's Christmas story. For this year...*grin* You'll see in roughly eight hours' time.
Second up: The answers to my lyrics challenge. Hopefully no-one will find themselves kicking themselves TOO hard... ;)
1) He asked ol' Santa what peace on earth was
Bon Jovi - I Wish Everyday Could Be Like Christmas [yeah, y'all can roll your eyes]
2) I remember when you were here/And all the fun we had last year
U2 (and Bruce Springsteen) - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) [This is probably one of my favs from this time of year - and it's not too over played, either]
3) What do you tell your daddy/When you see mamma kissing Santa Claus?
Slade - Merry Xmas [The quintessential British Christmas track, imho - I'm surprised *no-one* got this]
4) Once bitten and twice shy/I keep my distance/But you still catch my eye
Wham - Last Christmas [The other quintessential Christmas track *grin*]
5) I don't want a lot for Christmas
Mariah Carey (and plenty of others) - All I Want For Christmas (is You) [It's currently being used as part of Sky's seasonal promo. I *HATE* this song, but I've had it on the brain for the last month and a half *sigh*]
6) Welcome to my Christmas song
Elton John - Step Into Christmas [Friends of mine had an LP of Christmas songs which had a scratch on it, so for a long, long time, I never knew the whole of this song, just this one line!]
7) Twas light years ago since his mission did start
Chris de Burgh - A Spaceman Came Travelling [Surprised no-one got this]
8) Till I believed in the Israelite
Greg Lake - I Believe In Father Christmas [Another one I'm surprised no-one got, though someone DID guess this song was listed somewhere...]
9) So this is Christmas
John Lennon/Yoko Ono - Merry Christmas (War Is Over) [Another song I hate, just because they over play it]
10) Rousing up a mighty monster from his sleep
Aled Jones - Walking In The Air [He was such a cute kid - you should see him now...]
11) The choir of children sing their song
Wings - Wonderful Christmas Time [Surprised no-one got this one; though I did pick an obscure lyric - mostly cos it was the only one I could remember!]
12) Don't lock your doors because that sweet Santa Claus is on his way
Wizard/Roy Wood - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday [Can't believe no-one got this one, either]
13) "You girls and boys won't get any toys if you don't pull me out"
Anon - When Santa Got Stuck Up The Chimney [yes, childhood flashback - I remember singing this when I was three and four...]
14) Well I ain’t like old Saint Nick, he don’t come but once a year
Bon Jovi (also Jet and others) - Back Door Santa [See Khava's response on guessing this one for trivia!]
15) Snow is falling/All around
Shakin' Steves - Merry Christmas Everyone [Several people recognised the lyric, no-one got it]
16) With logs on the fire and gifts on the tree
Cliff Richard - Christmas Time [Personally always thought the title was Mistletoe and Wine, but I'll bow to the superior knowledge of my f'list - personally, can't stand the song!]
17) Bells will be ringing/The glad, glad news
Jon Bon Jovi - Please Come Home For Christmas [Another one I'm not terribly keen on - it was hugely overplayed on MTV when it was done, then again, I guess they had to get their money's worth out of Cindy Crawford...]
18) Top to toe in tailbacks
Chris Rea - Driving Home For Christmas [My boss challenged me to produce a Christmas cd that was different; so I dug this track up and got to really like it, too]
19) In the lane snow is glistening
Various - Winter Wonderland [I've heard umpteen versions of this song - so pick your favourite!]
20) At Christmas time/We let in light and we banish shade
Bandaid - Feed The World [Strictly the original version]
21) With a corncob pipe and a button nose
Frosty The Snowman [When I feel like irritating my boss, I'll hum this in June...]
22) Yeah I kind of missed 'em, I just don't wanna kiss 'em, no
Tom Petty - Christmas Time All Over Again [This also went onto the different Christmas cd for my boss]
23) Without you/I've got no place, no place to go
Mud - Lonely This Christmas [Surprised no-one got this]
24) Without each other's help there ain't no hope for us
Ozzy Osbourne (!!) - Dreamer [Yes, I know it's not STRICTLY a Christmas song, I was just so disturbed by the song I just HAD to include it!]
25) Venite, venite in Bethlehem
Various - Adeste Fideles [This was for the CBBers who read this journal]
So, any you should have got?

Date: 2004-12-24 09:10 am (UTC)Must get back to printing pictures for family presents! Merry Christmas!! :)
*bangs head*
Date: 2004-12-24 09:59 am (UTC)The rest, though ... I grew up with most of those songs, had them taped (and maybe collected on various CDs) for sure. But I think the reason nobody got them is, you were very top-heavy on older British stuff, hon. :-) Not that there's anything wrong with that!
Merry Christmas, anyway!
Re: *bangs head*
Date: 2004-12-24 10:16 am (UTC)2) Odd as it may seem, there are actually Brits on my f'list as well as Americans, ergo I'd have expected some of them to take a stab at them.
3) Aled Jones is *now* a tennor; in 1986 he was a decidedly cherubic chorister.
Re: *bangs head*
Date: 2004-12-24 10:29 am (UTC)2) Gee, really? *grins* And yeah, as I assumed that, it kind of surprised me.
3) Oh, okay. I tend to tune out anything sung by children; for the most part, I can't stand the cuteness. :-)
