Well, it's a boring and tedious day here at work, so I'm working on The Novel. Chapter 7 is going rather nicely and, I've had a few ideas vis-a-vis titles.

Best one I've come up with so far is [On] Deadly Ground. What does anyone think about that? Has Tom Clancy already used it?

I await opinions with interest :)

Sounds like a good title to me. I don't read Tom Clancy so I wouldn't know what title he uses.

P.S. I've been enjoying your power rangers fanfiction then I ended up here. I've learned that we do share the same birthday. Good luck with your novel. :)

Thanks very much :)

It's been used...

Not by Tom Clancy to my knowledge, but 'On Deadly Ground' was a (bad) movie with Steven Seagal.

Just about any title you can think of has probably been used somewhere, sometime, by someone, unless you come up with something fairly bizarre, so you might want to use it anyway.

Hmmmmmmm - I had a horrible feeling it had been used and abused somewhere in Hollywood, and now you've said that, I remember the film. No; don't think I want the connotations that might imply...

Rats. Back to the drawing board, me thinks... Thanks :)

Glad I could help - or sort of help.

It's been used, all right, but I don't think by Tom Clancy. I can just see the cover in my head, and it's definitely by one of Clancy's ilk, but I can't quite remember (ex-Barnes & Nobler here). It was also a godawful early-'90s Steven Seagal movie set in Alaska.

However, no laws against re-using titles. I've seen more than one fic entitled "Ties That Bind" in Jossverse fandom. I say, go ahead.

True, there's no law against it - I'm just a little concerned that by using the same title as a Steven Seagal movie, people might be put off...

On the other hand, of course, that assumes people remember Steven Seagal movies - and I think many people do their best to forget them...!

i think that even if people haven't seen the movie, they'll have a sort of background association with some bad b-film. they might not remember mister ponytail himself...maybe they'll think it's chuck norris... but still...

of course, i know nothing about the content of said novel, so i can't really suggest anything. sorry. ^_^

It's an even bigger issue than just the b-movie connotations, largely because it is that sort of story - though (and having seen the film in question I can say this with only a hint of immodesty), it's rather better than that. (Not least because the hero isn't Steven Seagal!)

Ya know, if it HAD been a Chuck Norris film, at least there's some postive vibes in there too...I can't remember seeing a Steven Seagal movie I liked - but I do like the odd one or two of Chuck Norris' :)
