Do YOU know where your melon baller is? I know where mine is.

Let's overlook the fact that I can't find my duvet, my pillows, my bedside lamp or anything remotely resembling the cat food stock pile, but at least we can serve balls of melon at our next dinner party.

*sigh*

In other words, the house-move has now happened and we are in the process of unpacking. (And no, before anyone asks, I have no idea WHY we have a melon baller - to the best of my knowledge, it has gone unused in my lifetime...) We're also finding out all the little quirks to the house. Like the shower that goes splot, the light switches that do nothing (!), the door handles held in place by a single screw (!!) and the bathroom door with no lock on (!!!)

And, of course, there's no internet at the new place yet (should be up and running on Monday), so I've got a tonne of email to wade through - and then there's what's sitting in my work inbox after four days off. (See, this is why I try not to take entire weeks off...!)

Normalish service ought to resume next week - though it'll probably be September before things are really sorted out. It's probably going to take that long to figure out what the hell we're going to do with all the books!

Mine is in the kitchen drawer. I bought it because my chocolate truffle recipe suggested using one to scoop out truffles, but I find fingers easier so I don't even use it for that.

I hope you're soon settled in and have things working that should work and a bed to sleep in etc.

Thank you :) - I DO actually have a bed to sleep in; just no duvet or pillows. Fortunately, I had the foresight to squirrel away fleece throws in a half a dozen places and we've found all the living room cushions, so my bed currently resembles something from a bad hareem! Still, it's cozy and, frankly, the last couple of nights I've been too tired to really care WHAT I was sleeping on as long as it was softer than the floor...

A friend came to help me put together my bookshelves the weekend I moved house, and I was able to find three ice cream scoops but no bowls...

*giggles* We had no bowls until about 5pm yesterday - then we went from no bowls to twenty bowls of assorted shapes and sizes in about five minutes.

No ice cream scoops, though - which is just as well, because we didn't START the move with one!

I suspect I will unearth a melon baller when I come to clear the kitchen... despite the fact I'm sure we gave it away last time we moved!

I've just unearthed chargers for phones we don't have any more, my school reports, two memory sticks I thought I'd lost and two fitted sheets still in their packaging. Goodness knows what else is still to find. But like you, I find that when it comes to unpacking, things seem to disappear that you know you packed, and things you swear you got rid of will turn up.

*laughs* I've tried to persuade my mother that a melon baller is about THE most useless kitchen implement that we possess and that we should, therefore get rid of it, but she insists it "might be useful one day".

I'm HOPING that the missing bedding and lamp will turn out to be in one of the boxes in my mother's room that she hasn't got to yet. It's either that, or my stuff headed for Saltash...

I think I'm finally safe to say they are. At least, I'm less likely to break a leg merely getting from one end of the hall to the other!

It's gone pretty well, all things considered - and now that we can just about navigate the house without fear of tripping, we're starting on the decorating stuff. Fun!

We've moved to Chippenham - so about fifteen/twenty miles along the M4 on the edge of the Cotswolds. Tis lovely - and while my morning commute has doubled (tripled?), I don't feel the urge to commit homicide and it's taking me just about as long as the drive across Bristol was taking...!
