Of all the places NOT to expect slash fic to ever, EVER get a mention, University Challenge is pretty damn close to the top of the list.

They did - but with no measure of certainty. It was a fairly obvious guess from the lengthy pause before the buzz! I, meanwhile, had to explain to my somewhat incredulous parents why I started saying Kirk/Spock before Paxman had even got to the actual question...

Hm. Kira/Sisko (yes, OK; not slash - still K/S, though!). Kim/Seven (ok, still not slash). Kira/Seven (now that's slash - but also crossover). Could also be Kirk/Scotty (which, let me just say, was not a mental image I wanted, but I think I'm now stuck with) and also Kirk/Sulu...

...ok. I should probably stop now before anyone checks my wardrobe for a Klingon face mask or a Starfleet uniform!

*snicker* Really? And Hugh Laurie got asked on "Inside the Actors' Studio" whether he was aware of House/Wilson slash and if he'd be willing to play that ... he said yes, but wasn't sure about Robert Dean Williams *grins*

*laughs* I know that most of the Highlander stars were aware of slashfic - largely through idiot fans who produced slash fanzines to get them to sign...

Heh.

At least they weren't as silly about it as William Shatner -- when he first became aware of K/S, he actually considered starting a lawsuit. His lawyers advised against it, though. *snicker* Smart guys!

However, the existence of K/S allegedly was responsible for that infamous footnote in Roddenberry's novelization of ST:TMP, where he has Kirk state that he wasn't interested in men "that way". Yeah, right. :)

Bearing in mind I was just a kidlet when I watched most of TOS and I haven't revisited it since, but my impression of Kirk is he's only slightly less sexual than Jack Harkness...

And actually, Valentine Pelka (Kronos) was extemely upset by it all - which did make life very awkward because Methos/Kronos is such an obvious relationship. No lawsuits but it did make him leary (at least for a while) of attending cons and the like.

Yeah, the fandom consensus was pretty much "Kirk'll shag anything that'll hold still long enough" -- or if not that, then at least "he's tried anything at least once". Also, Kirk was regarded as totally non-prejudicial and open.

I can see how that might've been awkward, yeah. :)

Btw, I liked the way ASJ replied to those silly rumors about him having done gay porn at PMC this June -- he admitted his boss actually called him in one day and confronted him with that (without creating problems); he said unequivocally it wasn't him ... and if he could drop his pants in public, he'd be able to prove it, too (implying the other guy was lacking in, um, stature)! *grins* Brag much? Cute, though. *snicker*

(Also, you might get Keiko to walk out on O'Brien for an S. Being morphed from exo-botanist to kindergarten teacher would have been plenty excuse....)
