So. CBB Gather this weekend. I've been blocking majorly on a bedtime drabble, given the prompts. I finally came up with a rather sketchy something over the weekend which, if all else fails, I'll contribute, but I'd like to produce a proper story.

And this morning, I thought I'd got the perfect idea.

It's now written.

It's too bloody long.

And not just too long in the sense that tweaking page margins will fix the problem. No. It's a whole page and a half too long!

And that's even without two of the sodding prompts too.

AGH!

So, you need to remove the margins completely, use the smallest font size you can find and then double print it ;o)

I'm sure you can make it fit if you just try a bit harder!

*laugh* Oh, you're right; I could make it fit if I did that, but no-one would be able to read it - and plus Auntie Lesley's been really mean and stipulated the font size to be 12...

I've posted it to the board instead.

Oh well. Back to the drabble drawingboard

"Oh, I'm so sorry - I didn't see there was a minimum font size!" should have been your response.

You need to work harder at avoiding rules you don't want to obey :o)

You're probably right. On the other hand, Lesley's bigger than me and Vikki is frequently armed with a camera. I see this as a rather bad combination!

(Why yes, I am a coward; thank you for noticing!)

I think, though, I may just have had yet another idea for a bedtime drabble. And this one might just work out the right length this time!

I was just about to say put it in anyway and sod the rules, but I guess I'm too late.....
(I have a feeling my own drabble will be a tad long......)

*grin* To be fair, it only actually contained two of the prompts, and it went over three pages...it's probably better off being posted to the board.

And I have had a rather cracking idea since - so all is not quite lost. Yet!

Sends bunny food.

If you're really stuck on length, it's amazing how much space you can save by tweaking linespacing and kerning *g*

Of course, if you send the original now, we'll all know it's yours from the length!

*laugh* That, plus it's posted up in St Agnes on the board...so I think it'd be a bit obvious.

*makes mental note to play with kerning and linespacing should the current idea develop major legs*

Thanks for the bunny food, though :)

Ah, not been back on the board since first thing this morning. Am waiting until I've finished working (not long now) or I won't get work done!

See, if I was a good little programming monkey, I wouldn't have been on the board myself.

However, there is a limit to the number of times you can run the same piece of script and get the same unsolveable error... *grin*

(Hope the work's going OK, though - and hope this morning went well)

Ah well, I'm only working 2 random hours today, and nearly one was taken up by this morning's meeting. If I was to CBB as well as LJ/emails/msn, then the other hour would have no work in it at all!!!

There is, of course, that in it *grin*

I will say that this afternoon, I have learned a great deal about the geography of the Middle East. Of course, it is debatable whether I *WANTED* to know the geography of the Middle East in the detail whereby I can now point to Damascus on an unmarked map (I wish I was kidding...)...still; they do say you should try and learn one new thing each day!

My headteacher at middle school used to tell us 'you learn one new thing every day' I never realised I had to _try_!

*grin* I didn't exactly set out to try and learn the position of Damascus - but mark it on three blank maps (well, two maps and then a repeat of one because you mis-typed something else!) and I can assure you, you learn it!

Blah. I swear this job is supposed to be program websites not "learn random geography of Europe, Africa and Asia!
