Good lord, there's nothing like a bit of fandom wank in the morning! I bopped over and added my two-pennorth...

I was aware of the whole rawr Cassie Claire banned from ff.net for plagiarism schemozzle, but I had always thought it was because of all the TV quotes etc she kept shoving in (which really annoyed me in DS, I mun say); I didn't realise she had quite blatantly plagiarised to that extent!

Also, how irritating is it that so many people can't tell the difference between copyright infringement and plagiarism? Grr. Fanfiction is *not* plagiarism. In fact, arguably, in some cases it's not a breach of copyright either, but that's a different argument. Fanfiction is fun. Plagiarism is dishonest. And a bit pathetic, really.

*grin* It's one of those things. I think everyone who is into fandom to some extent is at least aware of Cassie Claire and this whole mess, but it's really quite shocking to see just how much is plagiarised. And her chief supporter, Heidi, was as guilty (and moreso) of exactly the same thing (there's a post about THAT now over at Bad Penny, should you feel the need to depress yourself further).
