It was utterly airless in Bristol overnight and, as a general consequence, I slept rather badly. I did manage to get up for the gym, but after twenty minutes of hard exercise, I now feel utterly drained and out of it.

Blah.

Tonight might need to be a really early night.

And on top of being tired, muscles are starting to tell me I've been mistreating them...

Yeah. Not so much with the fun this morning.

And another random question for anyone reading this 'ere whine: Is Colorado one of the states where you HAVE to have your gas pumped by the attendant? Also, is it a pre-pay state or can you pump then pay?

I think New Jersey is the only state where it's illegal to pump your own gas.

Don't know about prepay vs pump than pay, though it does tend to vary from station to station. (I'd say there's always pay a the pump, but if this is for what I think it is, cash might be involved.)

I'm pretty sure (from things I've read in Customers Suck and Bad Service) there's at least one other state where you can't pump your own gas, but I can't, for the life of me, remember which one.

If the prepay thing does vary by station and not by state, though, that suits me nicely :) (It's probably connected to what I think you're thinking of, and yes, it's cash involved!)

Thank you :)

Around here in NC with the gas pumping bit, if the stations require you to prepay, it's typically for those paying with cash or by check - for the stations that accept checks, that is, and with those that do some only accept local personal checks. If you're paying with a debit or credit card, you can pay at the pump, provided it's a pump that's equipped that way. There's still plenty of small Mom and Pop stores that don't have pay at the pump capability, and you will have to go inside to pay no matter what. Some of those may also require you to pay ahead of time, but the last time I stopped at a place with the older pumps, they weren't doing pre-pay. Gas was over a dollar per gallon cheaper back then than now however, so they may ever be requiring pre-pay. Some stations only require the pre-pay after a certain hour, which pretty much means if it's starting to get dark, you have to pre-pay, unless you're doing pay at the pump.

You can still find a few full-service stations in NC where your gas can be pumped for you, but you don't see them like you used to. I learned how to pump gas by working at my Dad's service station, we pumped gas for every customer, washed their windshield, and unless they said they didn't need it done, we also checked their oil levels and the water in their batteries.

I'm really starting to date myself now, eh? :)

*grin* You might be starting to date yourself, but I wouldn't have known if you hadn't said ;)

And actually, what you've just said about your dad's service station is extremely helpful - I rather THOUGHT that was what happened at American Service Stations (at least at one time!), but I wasn't sure and it seriously helps me out with what I'm working on.

Thank you :)

PS Extremely cute icon :)

Glad I could help! :) The dating part was where I mentioned putting water in the car or truck's battery - so far as I know, all car and truck batteries are sealed now and you don't have to check the water in them, you physically can't get into the battery that I'm aware of. But there's likely still folks out there with the older cars and older batteries. But current stuff? Should be a sealed battery. When I was working at my Dad's service station, this was in the 70's and early to mid eighties. It was fun getting the occasional tip from someone when I was a kid for just doing my job. :) I never did the checking the air in the tires, one of the guys always did that, but I could do the gas pumping, checking oil, water in battery, windshield washer water level, wash the windshield... there were a couple of other things Dad showed me how to check when I got older, but I can't remember now what they were.

:) I love my kitty icons, I'm tempted to buy more userpic space so I can get more kitty icons, some more POTC icons, and get some PR icons finally. :)

There's still a few of the full service stations around, but like I said, you just don't see them like you used to. I was surprised when I saw something on Yahoo recently about how you're not allowed to pump your own gas in New Jersey, I hadn't heard about that until a few weeks ago.

Aha :) See, I DID know batteries required water, and a place I worked in the middle 90s possessed batteries you COULD fill (hence me not noticing the dating thing).

I may, then, get you to proof read later ;) - if you don't mind?

And good luck on the Icon hunt. I should prolly do myself some more - I have space for 40 odd icons and I only use 16!

I'll certainly give it a shot. :) Btw, I go on vacation starting this Sunday, so while I will have 'Net access, it'll be spotty and random next week.

I'm using all 34 spaces I have for icons. :) And I keep finding more icons I want to use, so the temptation to buy more space builds. Maybe sometime next month.

The vacation thing's not a problem; I'm thinking a little ahead of myself so it's probably not going to come up until after you get back :)

Thank you :)
