1978 On your birthdate the No. 1 single was Boney M - "Mary's Boy Child-Oh My Lord"
1979 On your 1st birthday Pink Floyd - "Another Brick In The Wall" OK, that's kinda cool!
1980 On your 2nd birthday John Lennon - "(Just Like) Starting Over"
1981 On your 3rd birthday The Human League - "Don't You Want Me"
1982 On your 4th birthday Renee & Renato - "Save Your Love" Kill me now
1983 On your 5th birthday The Flying Pickets - "Only You" Good grief; this is as old as this?! *boggle*
1984 On your 6th birthday Band Aid - "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
1985 On your 7th birthday Whitney Houston - "Saving All My Love For You"
1986 On your 8th birthday The Housemartins - "Caravan Of Love"
1987 On your 9th birthday The Pet Shop Boys - "Always On My Mind"
1988 On your 10th birthday Cliff Richard - "Mistletoe & Wine"
1989 On your 11th birthday Jive Bunny - "Let's Party"
1990 On your 12th birthday Vanilla Ice - "Ice Ice Baby"
1991 On your 13th birthday Queen - "Bohemian Rhapsody / These Are The Days Of Our Lives" Another one for the cool side of things
1992 On your 14th birthday Whitney Houston - "I Will Always Love You"
1993 On your 15th birthday Take That - "Babe" I've changed my mind; I'll take Renee & Renato over this bunch ANY day of the week!
1994 On your 16th birthday East 17 - "Stay Another Day"
1995 On your 17th birthday Michael Jackson - "Earth Song"
1996 On your 18th birthday Dunblane - "Knockin' On Heaven's Door / Throw These Guns Away"
1997 On your 19th birthday Teletubbies - "Teletubbies Say 'Eh-Oh'"
1998 On your 20th birthday B*witched - "To You I Belong" Ah, B*witched...whatever happened to them? [NB, this is a rhetorical question!]
1999 On your 21st birthday Cliff Richard - "The Millennium Prayer"
2000 On your 22nd birthday Eminem - "Stan" I suppose this beats the endless diet of seasonal songs - but I think I'm a little boggled all the same
2001 On your 23rd birthday Robbie Williams & Nicole Kidman - "Somethin' Stupid"
2002 On your 24th birthday Blue featuring Elton John - "Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word"
2003 On your 25th birthday Ozzy & Kelly Osbourne - "Changes"
2004 On your 26th birthday Band Aid 20 - "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
2005 On your 27th birthday Pussycat Dolls - "Stickwitu" I don't know this - and somehow, I feel I'm NOT missing out on anything...

Try It Here

That's the annoying thing about a December birthday, though. Your presents come wrapped in paper with holly leaves or Santa Claus and the only music in the charts is novelty/charity records. Bleh. (OK, with the exception of Queen and Pink Floyd!)

The really scary thing is that I remember all of them apart from the 2 or 3 most recent!

So with you on that. I think it's actually kind of wrong that I know the songs that were no.1 when I was a baby/toddler *BETTER* than I know most of the songs from post 2000!

I would venture to suggest many of mine are worse than yours.

Except Crazy Frog.

Having Crazy Frog as your birthday no.1 is just plain embarrassing ;)

I know...I may have to change my birthday to hide the fact I got Crazy Frog!

*laugh* I think I actually win for the Jive Bunny - I have that on LP somewhere... (Ooops, is that my 80s showing? ;))

my list would be the same as yours - albeit starting a few years later...

It'll be slightly different - your birthday is (I think) much closer to Christmas than mine. I know, for one thing, the Christmas number one in 97 was the Spice Girls (which doesn't feature on my list).

*grin*

It might be interesting to run yours just to see how much difference a week makes ;)

Um, yup, that would be right. TBH I think I object more to Blobby than the spice girls - I don't know any of their songs after the first one, but blobby was just vile!

Good point! The Spice Girls' song's actually not too bad (as long as you don't think *too* hard about what the lyrics actually say!), but Mr Blobby is, ah, special!

My birthday is also the 16th of December, but I was born in 1980.
The sad thing is that I haven't heard of most of these songs, unfortunately.

It's worth noting that this is based on the British chart, and most of the songs haven't exactly been, ah, international hits.

That said, I can honestly say that you have not missed much if you've never heard Renee & Renata or Take That or *shudders* the Teletubbies...

On another note, this must mean we're twins - of a sort ;)
