Doctors...

Grah.

I've just come back from my three monthly checkup. Unfortunately, owing to various things, I didn't see my normal doctor. Instead, I saw the locum.

Who told me:
1) That I was a long-term smoker
2) My ideal weight is 64kg

OK. Number one, I am not and never have been a smoker. Both my parents DO smoke and believe me, that's been quite enough to put me off for life. When I pointed this out to her, she said "Oh, sorry; I was thinking of the patient before you." - Which is SO comforting, I don't think.

Number two is just plain ridiculous. If I lost that much weight (my current weight is around about 83kg) I would look ill. I pointed that out to the doctor. She said "No, you'd look healthy." I said, "No, I wouldn't; I have big shoulders and big hips, I would look ridiculous." It was only THEN that she actually looked at me.

Grah.

And they wonder why my blood pressure is a little on the high side.

My dad saw the triage doctor or whatever they're called at his practice a while ago who informed him that he was a 40 a day smoker, long term. Not bad, 'cept he gave up so he could get married to Mutti who has issued him with the ultimatum of: me or the fags. And that was the best part of 40 years ago...

It fills you with such confidence in the medical staff when they pull stuff like this, doesn't it?

I have no confidence in medical staff anyway, it's part and parcel of selling your soul to the NHS ;)

*hugs* isn't it awful when they don't actually look at YOU when you go in and see who you are! Or make assumptions like that. Can you get to see your nomral doctor again for some better opinions?

My usual doctor's rather snowed under at the moment (which is how come I saw this chick in the first place), so probably not until I have my next three-monthly checkup.

I'm not all that worried (so long as my records are, in fact, correct and I'm not down in the system as a smoker - which I'll check in three months) so much as just utterly flabbergasted.

*hugs back*

*rolls eyes*

It's like a doctor asking me if I was on the Pill, to which I replied yes...

Him: "In that case, it's definitely the Pill that's causing all your pain problems."

Me: "Er, I started it ysterday..."

Him: "oh... maybe it isn't then."

Ouch... I think I should go and thank my doctor for spending that much attention to her patients...

*headdesk* Two years ago, my doctor put me on a healthy eating programme, to get my weight down to "normal" (I'm 5 feet 5, so that's 60kg). Within weeks I was borderline anorexic (=8 stone 3 for someone of my height), and then had to fight to put the weight on. L'idiot. It wasn't as if I was even fat, maybe 11 stone?
