OK. It's 8:20am. I'm in work and the phone goes. Since I'm the only person in the office, I answer it. The conversation goes like this:

Me: Good morning [company name]
Him: Hello.
Me: *boggled* Uh?
Him: How are you?
Me: *still boggled* I'm fine, uh, who is this?
Him: Steve.
Me: Steve's not here---
Him: No I'm Steve.
Me: You're Steve? Right. [I should note at this point that I have a colleague called Steve and this was not him!]
Him: Can I come round?
Me: Regarding what?
Him: I want to make love to you.
Me: I think you've got the wrong number, mate.
Him: I want to lick your little pussy.
Me: Fuck off you wanker. [slams phone down]

I've tried 1471 (before anyone suggests it and he witheld his number. Which just leaves me going "WTF?"

It's very much NOT what you want at 8:20am...

Ugh, what a prick. Have you got a whistle handy?

No, sadly. Don't think he's going to ring back now, though.

*hugs* that sounds awful. Somehow I think he got the picture though. I'd love to say he made a simple mistake, but somehow it doesn't seem that way.

*drops off a few more hugs*

*hugs back*

Thank you.

Given he hasn't called back, I rather suspect being called what I called him DID get the point across.

On the 'up' side to this, I'm now thinking of a few, rather more entertaining, ways I could respond - if he calls back, he'll regret it *evilgrin*

Having been through this sort of thing more than once, I was muttering 'just hang up' when I read the 'Can I come round' line.

From everything I've learned about these guys, angry retorts and insults just fan the flames. Hanging up immediately is the best response if you want to disappoint the guy.

The thing is, though, I don't think this was a genuine attempt at an obscene/nuisance phone call, I think it was a case of wrong number and not wanting to admit that you'd called the wrong person.

He didn't subsequently phone back, which does suggest it was just a wrong number - just a rather horrific one.

Honestly? From what you wrote this does not sound at all like a wrong number to me, it sounds like a classic obscene phone call. As for him not calling back - there's no way to predict how someone like this will react because they're not operating on human logic. Hopefully he won't bother you again. If he does, my advice is still to just hang up.

I disagree - I think it was just a wrong number. *shrug* It, ultimately, doesn't matter one way or the other; he hasn't rung back and I strongly suspect that'll remain the case.

I have heard that not hanging up but putting the handset down and walking away is the best solution. Although I like the whistle idea.

As I've said, I think it was a wrong number that refused to give up rather than a nuisance call - in which case what I did sufficiently shocked him. I suspect if I'd just hung up, without saying anything, he might well have rung back - as it is, he didn't (and I suspect won't now).

*laugh* I think that may just be my response if I get a repeat performance on Monday.

(I rather suspect I won't, though.)

Well I once had a guy calling me three times in a row thinking he'd dialed his (apparently freshly) ex-girlfriend's number...on the third call I introduced to to Alice Cooper at maximum volume :-D
