Ugh. I've been having a morning of it today. My old USB hub died on Thursday, taking out my wireless keyboard with it (wireless keyboard receiver being one of the things I'd got plugged in there). This morning, I got out my spare hub, plugged it in, reconnected the wireless keyboard...and was promptly told that "Windows doesn't recognise the USB device plugged in". Grah. This means I've got to reinstall the wireless keyboard software. This is annoying. What's even moreso is that the spare hub is now trying to power the PC. If I switch off with it plugged in, the 'puter doesn't power down fully and I can't then power up again. Why yes, this is annoying. As is the fact that the 'puter only has two USB ports in the first place. I have a dialup modem, but only two USB ports. How frelling useless is that?! (This is why I have USB hubs in the first place.) So, I'm going to manage with what I've got at the moment (that is, back to a wired keyboard and unplugging the hub before I close down) and next Saturday, my mother will be taking the 'puter into the local computer shop to have a, additional USB ports installed and b, a new DVD/CDR drive (my inbuilt one is not so slowly dying).

I've also expended £15 on a new wired keyboard to replace the one I've been using for the last couple of days, which has (I'm not exagerating here) a *DENT* in the space bar. That is how much typing I do!

  • Write TMA 02 - I have notes, I have a few ideas, time to put them into coherence

  • Pack suitcase, locate travel insurance, passport, dollars wallet and travel pounds wallet (yes, I do have different wallets for different currencies - I know that's a little weird but it helps me keep things straight) - I've got the clothes picked out and ready and I think I know where the other wallet is; I just need to get it out

  • Chapter Five - A Chinese Adventure

  • Clean out car

  • Change USB hub over and finally unpack and use new surge protector! - See long preamble above

  • Tidy computer desk - I tidied it, then I pulled the 'puter apart so the random USB leads lying around need tidying up, to say nothing of disposing of the keyboard with the dented spacebar!

  • Tidy upstairs desk

  • Tidy bedroom and tackle some of the overdue filing

  • Clean the kettle work surface

  • Dust!

  • Put up picture

The ideal, as far as the above list is concerned, would be to finish off everything else on it, barring the TMA, leaving me the whole of tomorrow to write it. It's only a thousand words (!) but it needs to be fairly tightly planned (and the fact that I'm volunterily planning an essay is something that would shock my GCSE English teacher who all but had to pin me against a wall to write an essay plan BEFORE I wrote the essay!) and the whole exercise is one that's worth devoting most of my time to.

In more positive news, though I may not have lost any further weight, I am, now, officially a US size 12. (I think that translates as UK size 16.) The jeans I'm wearing I bought in the US last time I was over cos I wasn't sure which size was going to fit my mother. At the time I bought them, I couldn't even think about trying to wear them. They now fit pretty well. I still need to lose a little bit more waistline (can't get my hands properly in my pockets, much less anything more useful!) but, all the same, YAY!!!

So, I think my next task is a spot of lunch and a stab at that chapter of A Chinese Adventure. Probably in that order.
