Not Dead - Not Yet...
Dec. 15th, 2005 12:34 pmI swear I have a mini temporal vortex following me around lately. How the hell did it get to be the day before my birthday?! I swear I had a good ten days to go! Agh! And it doesn't help that this year I seem to be hideously disorganised, even by my standards.
Normally, because of having so many American friends *waves to the relevant portions of the flist and beyond* when this time of year rolls around, I am organisation personified. My presents are all bought, my cards are all written and, best of all, they're all blinking well sent, too. As it is, the American pressies have been mailed, and some of my cards have been written and 'sent' (ok, handed out in person - but why waste the opportunity?!!) but there's still a stack to be written and posted and everytime I turn around, I remember someone else I need to buy a present for. Thankfully, tomorrow is a day off (it's a tradition that I started when I was 11 [helped by the fact that my school believed in giving us a half day on the day of the carol service, which tended to fall on the 16th!] and I've tried to maintain ever since: My birthday must be a day [or at the very least a half day] off.) so with a little luck, by tomorrow evening, I will be completely sorted and serene.
Either that or you'll find me in Barrow Gurney loony bin in the nearest padded cell.
One of the things that's been eating into my time has been work which has been going steadily more and more nuts - and which is only going to get worse come the new year. We have *pauses to count* 3 huge projects, 2 large projects, 2 small projects and 3 routine maintenance projects coming up, and that's never mind dealing with anything the rest of our clients might dream up! Out of that list, the 2 large, 2 small and 3 routine maintenance projects are all (more or less) my responsibility and I'll be involved in the 3 huge projects. And as things stand, they're all, more or less, going to hit at once. And what we've been doing in the last week-ten days is prepping for them. Which involves really a lot of tedious stuff and has led to me spending most of the last week arguing with something called SAPDB. If there's anyone on my flist whose employers are looking at using SAPDB let me say: Don't. It's worse than a pile of dogleavings. Seriously. It is the crappest database system I have ever used with some of the worst documentation ever. It's also got the power to make XP - which has to be the most stable Windows OS since Windows 3.1 - completely crap out and freeze to the point where all I can do (since my work 'puter has no reset button) is pull out the power cable.
Throw in the fact that I've got plot bunnies dancing round me in some sort of Bunny Lake production and you've got a recipie for complete frustration and rapidly oncoming insanity.
And SO not helped by the bunny that wouldn't shut up last night and kept me up until gone 1am.
Anyone managed to invent a twenty-fifth hour yet?
