It's been a while since I posted some of this. Writer's block - and a general inability to write Tycho and company without turning them into 1950s school girls (don't ask) - have rather hampered me. The good news? I think I'm back on track.

If I'm lucky, I'll have the rest of chapter 3 done this week.

If you've missed a part, all the parts for this are linked from the right hand pannel on this page *points* under the imaginative title "Isard's Grip" :)

As ever, no beta's have been harmed in the production of this - so if you spot any howlers or any characters not acting as they should, please yell and I'll fix it up.

Chapter Three

Myron paced the waiting area. How long did it take a protocol droid to find someone and ask them if they'd be willing to talk to an investigator? It felt as if he'd been waiting for hours, though his wrist chrono assured him he'd actually been waiting less than half an hour. His gut instinct said that Captain Celchu would be able to shed some light on events, but the longer he waited, the less certain he was.

As he completed yet another circuit of the waiting area, however, a door slid open. Myron turned, hoping to see Captain Celchu. To his surprise, however, he found himself facing the protocol droid again.

"Captain Celchu regrets to tell you that he will be unavailable today," the droid said apologetically.

Myron grimaced and opened his mouth to ask if he could schedule a meeting for the following day.

The droid got in first. "He also recommends you speak to Lieutenant Horn. I have taken the liberty of enquiring with Lieutenant Horn, and he would be happy to help you."

Myron turned the offer over in his mind for a few minutes, then nodded. It was a place to start. "Please, lead the way."

The droid's head bobbed in a jerky nod. "This way, sir."

Nawara was a little surprised to arrive at Tycho's office, only to find the Alderaanian absent and apparently in his place, Hobbie.

"Lieutenant Ven." Hobbie nodded in greeting. "Tycho's gone for caf."

"Caf?" Nawara blinked. "I should have thought he'd have had enough yesterday."

Hobbie frowned. "What happened yesterday?" he asked.

"Oh, nothing." Nawara shook his head. "Nothing specific," he amended.

"But?" Hobbie prompted.

"You've known the captain longer than I have," the Twi'lek began. "Have you ever known him admit to being nervous?"

Hobbie stared for a moment before slowly shaking his head. "Tycho's not the nervous type."

"Well, thank you for that ringing endorsement, Hobbie."

Nawara jerked round to find that Tycho was standing just behind him, looking amused. Nawara wondered how much of the conversation he'd heard. "Uh, good morning, sir?" he said lamely.

Tycho just waved him into the office. "Let's get down to this. The sooner we've got the roster filled, the sooner we can get the new pilots integrated into the squadron and start training. Sooner or later, Admiral Ackbar is going to be giving us orders."

Caz felt her eyes beginning to burn as she scanned yet another screenful of possible matches for Doda Kavila. She had tried to narrow the search further, by eliminating non-Rodians from the list, but the species information was too patchy. So she was stuck trawling through some twelve thousand records.

At the bottom of the screen, she came across something that looked a little more promising. Prisoner 153632's height and weight fell within the normal limits of the average Rodian. The species information had been irretrievably corrupted, but the record did show he'd been transferred from Lusankya to a prison on Lourilla V.

Something about the name Lourilla V tugged at Caz's memory. In a separate query window, she ran a search for information on the planet. To her surprise, the answer came back very quickly. Lourilla V was the first planet the Rebellion freed after the battle of Endor.

"Any political prisoners held there would have been freed," Caz murmured. "And someone who was held in Lusankya would have to be a political prisoner."

She returned to the Lusankya records, but there was nothing else left of Prisoner 153632's record. Chewing her lip thoughtfully for a moment, she sent an enquiry to the Lourilla V authorities, requesting any information they had on Prisoner 153632. Then, with a sigh, she returned to scanning the Lusankya records. There were still eight thousand other potential matches and though Prisoner 153632 looked promising, she couldn't rule out anything yet.
