Well, it's certainly not Shakespeare...
The silence hangs heavy and fills his head
With the drumming noise of heart beats so fast
He knows that now all his dreams are dead
And gone are the happy days of the past
He's waiting for his jailers to return
To protect his girls from harm he has sworn
And from him nothing will his jailers learn
Though it might cost him one last sight of dawn
But he recalls freedom's clarion call
The sun on the lake; the fresh smell of rain
Blissful days spent with friends one and all
And though his life might be ending in pain
Casting o'er those memories a dark pall
He knows that happy times will come again
Bonus points to anyone who guesses who the 'he' is.
