Today was Bristol RFC's first match back in the premier league. They were playing the old enemy (Bath). Nobody gave them a prayer. In fact, earlier this week, Stuart Barnes (who's ex-Bath, as it goes, and also the rugby correspondent of the local evening paper) predicted Bristol to go straight back down again.
I've just listened to stereo cheers from the Memorial Ground (which is only about five hundred yards away from where I'm sat right now!) and the TV as Bristol clung on to a three point lead to beat Bath 19-16.
So my question is: Is this an omen for Thursday-Monday of this week? At the start of the summer and particularly after Lord's, England weren't given a prayer. Can we really overcome Australia at The Oval? Can we finally do it?
And having just said all that, I must find me a Bath supporter to torment - Bristol's victory came about entirely due to a Bath screw up... *grin*
