Updates and Random Musings
Jun. 30th, 2005 08:10 amIs anyone on my flist a moped rider? If so, can you explain to me just why it is so many moped riders consider their best move at traffic lights to be to come and sit at the very front of the queue? Motorbikes I can understand - they have the sort of acceleration that will let them sit in front of of the waiting cars and be away from the lights before most car drivers have reacted, but mopeds really, really haven't. Case in point, I completely out accelerated one who'd attempted to sit in front of me this morning. (Before anyone jumps on me, he was ahead but about three feet to the left of me, so when I shot forwards, he was in no danger from anything beyond my dust!) Why do they do it? Do they have a death wish? The only thing worse is when a cyclist does it...but that's another rant altogether.
And while I'm in that vein, why is it some folks are so dang slow away from traffic lights? It shouldn't be possible for the second car in the queue to out accelerate the front one - and yet at every single set of lights I had to stop at (and there are quite a few on my route to work) barring the one I copped for the mopedist, I started forwards only to have to break because the person in front had all the reactions of a dead rat.
Is it just me?
And then, to my amusement, someone endevoured to show off their driving skills to me. This was in the car park at work. I was dumping rubbish into the communal bin, he was flytipping (I think - never seen the car in our car park before, never seen HIM before). After dumping his garbage in the bin, he got into his car (an older model White BMW) and proceeded to execute an overfast Y-turn with much, much, MUCH wheelspin. No reason for him to even think about doing it at that sort of speed because the only other person around was me (and I was on foot). So either he wanted to wreck his tyres or he was trying to impress the little woman. *snort* My name is not Vicki Butler-Henderson. Wheelspin and tyresmoke do not impress me.
In writing news, I got the next part of Isard's Grip written - though I guess I should probably draw a conclusion from the slightly deafening silence with which that was greeted as to how successful (or not) that was. Didn't manage to get anything written on Francie, mostly because clients refused to leave me alone.
Today's tasks are Mike and Soaring Eagle. Guess we'll see how well I do on those...

Date: 2005-06-30 07:40 am (UTC)I read your Isard's Grip post, but didn't comment because I've not read any of the rest of it and don't know the characters - am now wanting to know what happens next though! :)
Oooooh more Mike! Yay! My task today is going to be some Felix I think - and the end of Grizel's birthday.

Date: 2005-06-30 08:22 am (UTC)Assuming the Memories function comes back, the first part of Isard's Grip is linked from there (though it won't entirely enlighten you as to who the characters are!)
And yay! More Grizel (poor, poor soul - and I felt sorry for Grizel even before you started 'Unwanted')
