1) Total number of fandoms I like: Oh boy. The total number of fandoms I hang out in or am remotely active in is one (Chalet School). That I read, two (Star Wars and X-Men/Wolverine). That I've *been* involved with (and maybe again), four (Highlander, Buffy, Power Rangers, Robin of Sherwood). There's a few others (Stargate for one - my mind's just gone annoyingly blank over the rest) that I'm interested in, but, really, I'm slipping away from fandom altogether.

2) My first fandom ever: Depends on how you view this. If by first you mean "the one you first got interested in", that would be Chalet School. If by first you mean "the one you first were active in" that would be Highlander.

3) My most recent fandom: Again, by the time I got interested in it, that would be Buffy. By the time I got active in it, that would be Chalet School (!!).

4) Five fandoms that currently mean a lot to me: (with explanations)

1.Highlander - It all started with me needing a show on the German station we used to get to give me some practice at listening comprehension. It grew from there. I've mostly moved on from there now as the various lists I used to be on have devolved from a Highlander focus to "Methos as the Queen Mum" or "Who's going to be the next James Bond", but I still like the show and I'm still rather proud of some of my HL fanfic.

2. Chalet School - They were THE books I read when I was a kid. They had exotic locations, adventures, fun...it was everything that seemed to be missing from my school days. The only surprising thing is that it took me so long once I got online to look up and see whether there was anything much online about it. Eventually, I did, wound up on the CBB and...there I am. I'm not as active as I'd like to be at the moment, but with OU winding down now, that should improve :)

3. Power Rangers - Before I knew what fanfic was, I was writing (or at least thinking about writing) PR fanfic. I blundered into the show on the UK's first ever broadcast of Day of the Dumpster, which I spent entirely trying to figure out whether I was supposed to take it seriously or whether it was a spoof. Six episodes or so later, I still wasn't sure, but I was oddly hooked - partly, I think, because the heros were all my age and while it was silly, there were also some very interesting characters. I drifted away when the show changed channels, then returned when its tenth incarnation got a video release and from THAT, I ended up with the Identiverse...

4. Star Wars - Longtime readers of this journal will know I am a Star Wars nut. They will know that I went to the midnight showing of Revenge of the Sith. It's been the background to my life (as it were) - I was born after A New Hope came out, so I've never known a time when I COULDN'T feasably catch one or other movie on the TV or pop a video in. I'm also one of those people who actually doesn't mind too much if George Lucas wants to tweak the films after release. In fact, when I grow up, I want to be George Lucas, because say what you like: The man's been successful at what he wanted to do *grin* Weirdly, though, I've never got properly into the fandom. I read fanfic and EU novels but I've never joined a mailing list or forum and taken an active part in discussion until now (*waves to [livejournal.com profile] antigone_ks*)...and I'm still not sure I'm going to be that active. Who knows.

5. Actually, there isn't really a number five - I'm interested in Buffy, I've had fun with Robin of Sherwood, I find Wolverine and the X-Men to be an interesting take on mankind in general...but I don't think any of them are quite as important to me as the previous four.

Ooh, thanks. But what is a dan? *imagines my own SLOC, but thinks it probably isn't that*

Well, the gentleman in the icon *points* is dan. He is the cute, all purpose comfort icon - I don't think you can have him as a SLOC for all time, but for the duration of this thread, he's yours :)

Oh, I see. *goes through SLOC form* Yes, not bad. I think he will do - at least for this thread...
