Well, X-3 is now well underway. Film's due to start soon(ish) for a May 2006 release.

Yay.

This is good.

They have confirmed Framke Janssen (whose name I've probably just hideously mis-spelt) is returning.

This is also good. (A semi-nobrainer, seeing as the basic story for X-3 is going to revolve around the Phoenix comicbook arc, but good.)

What is less good is that, apparently (and according to IMDB [so all standard info disclaimers apply]), there's no Bryan Singer. I don't normally worry too much about who directs the movies I watch, but given that Bryan Singer so thoroughly 'got' X-Men and did such a good job marrying the new with the old...I was hoping he'd be directing again.

Also currently missing from the IMDB listing are James Marsden and Halle Berry - about whom I know there's some umming and arring. I do hope that they'll both sign on.

So a question to you, my friends list: Who, out of the Xverse characters who haven't so far been on screen, do you most want to see added to the movieverse?

Oooh, X-Men! I like!

Having not delved into the X-Men for quite a while I'm a bit rusty on characters, but I always quite liked Gambit (he hasn't been in the films yet has he? If he has I completely missed him!) Although I have to admit, my main X-Men knowledge comes from the cartoon, not the comics (I know, I know, it's sacrelidge but that's the way it is! ;o))

*chuckles* I'm 50/50 as to where my knowledge comes from - I'm more a pure Wolvie fan m'self, so I have piles of those comics, but I've barely read any of the actual X-Men titles, so what I know about most of the rest of the characters comes from the cartoon.

And barring a small, text reference, Gambit has yet to show up in the movies.

He's the one I'm most hoping for :)

Any ideas who you'd like to see play him?

Oh, I've read loads of Wolverine comics because my ex was a big fan, but only ever read a compilation graphic novel from the library of actual X-men comics.

No specific ideas about actors, but there would have to be a seriously sexy accent there to make it work! (Shallow, moi? Never!)

*laughs* I completely agree about the accent. It just wouldn't be Gambit if the accent was wrong :)

Have you read the Wolverine Origin saga?

Not sure. He collected the new Wolverine comic (OK, so it's not that new anymore, but I'm sure you know the one I mean).

I bought one of my friends the DK book about the X-Men for Christmas years ago and nearly couldn't give it to her I liked it so much! I see it in bookshops from time to time and I'm always tempted. I *will* buy it one day...

I have some of the new ones - can't say I've warmed to the art work so much, but the stories are good. Origins, though, is absolutely fab - it was a mini-series done about eighteen months or so before X2 came out and it finally answers the question of what Logan's origins are (!)...and it's really not what you'd expect.

I know some bits about his origins so maybe I've read bits of it. We did have some random single issues floating about so maybe that's it. I might pop off to the next comic fair and see what I can pick up. I miss my comics - I haven't had any new ones for ages! (That's what comes of being an MA student - you have to give up all the expensive, unnecessary, but much-loved things!)

I used to work in town so I could pop into Forbidden Plant or The Comic Shop (yes, there's actually a shop in Bristol called that!) and pick up the new issues as they came out. Now I barely get into town. It does mean I've stopped picking up random comics on a weekly basis but I'm also spending more on buying the graphic novel compellations! (Though at least with the compellations I'm spared the cliff hangers!)

I think I'm going to stick to graphic novels from now on - they do work out cheaper, after all. When I start getting paid again, the comic shops aren't going to be able to get rid of me!

The other good thing about graphic novels is they shelve better :) I think I have almost got an entire bookshelf just dedicated to graphic novels of either Wolverine or my other big comic passion, Star Wars.

Yup. I think it's the librarian in me, but I do like nicely shelved books! The ex and I managed to build up 4 big (like the ones in the shops, y'know) boxes of comics but he got custody of them because he bought most of them. *weeps*

You have a Forbidden Planet there?! Wonder if they're a chain.

Anyway, I don't keep up with the comics now, but would like to see more of the original characters - Iceman had a part, and Beast appeared, but I think Angel hasn't showed up in the movies so far. Also would like to see Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, and more than a cameo for Kitty Pryde and Colossus.

Yup, Angel/Archangel hasn't shown up - barring a single text reference. I'm guessing that he's not appeared because of the difficulty of doing the wings - but it would be very cool if they can do it.

Beast's appeared? Oh - no I think I know when you mean.

And yes, more from Colossus and Kitty Pryde would be good too :)

Um - I'm not so sure now what I meant. In fact, I think I was confusing the movies with the cartoon.

Saw that rumor has it X-3 will include Gambit, Beast, and Angel; and maybe Psylocke, Emma Frost, Dazzler, Juggernaut and even the Sentinels. That's quite a lineup.

As Jonath's pointed out, Hank McCoy popped up on TV being interviewed when Mystic seduces the prison guard.

As for that rumour...I'm thinking probably not ALL of those! The most likely would probably be Gambit and Beast - they're the two who've been in and out of the two existing X-Men movies. I think Psylocke would be an interesting addition, though (as would Angel, if they can do the wings).

Have to admit, the whole Sentinels side of things tended to leave me very cold; it always seemed to emphasise the fact that the characters weren't real. If you keep them out of it then it's something that could be going on in the real world...if that makes sense.

That's what I meant! Yeah. That's right.

Personally I like the Sentinels, not so much as big old robots but the concept of them. Maybe some kind of reworking, as human-looking androids or something... (Easier on the special effects budget, too.)

*chuckles*

The humanoid androids might be better - and, as you say, much easier on the effects buget. On the other hand, do the Sentinels even feature in the Phoenix arc of the comic books? It's been waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long since I read that arc and if they don't then I think the writers would be silly to drag them in.

Been a long time for me, too, but as I recall you're right, no Sentinels. Just super-powered aliens, whole solar systems being destroyed, and a final epic battle on the moon. Talk about your special effects budget!

Gonna be really kinda interesting to see how they do that...

I have faith. They did Weapon X superbly.

Yup; gotta love the blue-furred one.

*Technically*, Beast has been in both previous movies - but it won't be Beast properly until he's got the fur. (imho, anyway!)

....mmmmmwings.... *has a moment*

*recovers* Anyways. Yes. If you're thinking of the brief appearance of "Dr. Henry McCoy" on TV (IIRC -- and it's been awhile -- while we were in the bar where Mystique seduced the security guard), then you're right. ;)

More Colossus would be fantabulous; I also wouldn't mind seeing Northstar make an appearance. We've already got one Canadian mutant, admittedly, but I'd like to see what they'd do with the fact that (in the 616-verse) he and Wolverine met years ago with Alpha Flight. Or the fact that he flirted a little bit with Big!Gay!Colossus in the Ultimate-verse. ... really, I'd love to see Big!Gay!Colossus, but I know I have about as much chance as a snowball in hell...

Oh, and there's a reason that Bryan Singer's not on as director -- he went off to do the new Superman movie, IIRC. I didn't hear who they ended up getting -- was it listed at IMDB?

According to IMDB, the director's Matthew Vaughn, who directed Layer Cake and was a producer on a loads of Guy Ritchie's stuff. Interesting...

That should please Superman fans, then - but leaves us X-fans missing him. And yeah, the new director's up at IMDB - assuming they have the correct data, of course!

Yeah, the new Superman movie is up on IMDB. "Superman Returns."

The casting for that one is just weird - Hugh Laurie kind of makes sense if you've seen "House" (and yes, Rach, I'll send you those tapes!) - but it's also worth noting that James Marsden's signed on for that one too. So I have no idea how that's going to screw up X-3 casting.

And Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane? She'll probably snap the first time she's grabbed by some baddies. (Sorry, but have you *seen* how skinny she is now? Anorexic girls actually do worship her - she is their 'thinspiration'.)

Wouldn't know her if she bit me on the bum, to be honest, though the concept of someone being so thin as to be worshiped as a goal to be achieved is really rather disturbing.

She looks ugly in the first one, skelatal in the second and about as reasonable as anyone can look in a bikini in the third. *shakes head* As for Orlando Bloom, I thought they'd broken up. *is shamelessly addicted to gossip columns but would probably not recognise most of the subjects on the street*
