...ever tell you that it's not boring being the only person in an office. I am climbing the walls here, and that's even with being reasonably productive (chapter twenty-three is rapidly pulling together).

*sigh*

And I've suddenly got a mad jones to play Def Leppard. Do I have any of my Def Leppard CDs handy? No. Do I have any Def Leppard tracks currently stored on my MP3 player? No.

Ahg.

I hear that...

Although I don't know if I'd say boring exactly. I complain about all the distractions of working in a lab full of people who have a habit of walking in with a question when I'm deep in piece of code that doesn't want to work... but when I used to come in and work on weekends, the silence and emptiness were even more distracting. Working at home was a good compromise; I have cats to climb on me and walk in front of the screen and push the keyboard off my desk.

Music is a good idea, but there's something about knowing you're all alone that makes us uneasy. Maybe it's just our primitive human need to exist in groups.

*nodding* It's got to be something like that, though I do find that music definitely takes the edge off the alone-ness. I think the worst occasion was the day just before Christmas (a couple of years back) when a co-worker didn't bother to call me to say he was off sick; instead he called the guys in our other office. That was the day BEFORE I habitually had a portable CD player installed on my desk!

The fun thing is, I can normally reckon on getting at least one phone call during the course of the day, which is a reasonable form of human contact - but today, it hasn't so much as bleeped. (Of course, there is still about half an hour of the work day left...)

Also ought to add that I LOVE working from home, apart from the fact that I can't access our test server, so I have to write all my code blind and have to then get the boss to tell me what the errors are!
