Well, today has been interesting.

I played my first game of hockey in over a year, and - considering how long it's been and the fact that the GK kit I was wearing did not FIT (the woman it's borrowed off has to be the strangest shaped woman in Bristol - I mean, she's three inches taller than me, but to judge by the knots in some of the kicker [feet guard] straps, she has to have feet two-three sizes SMALLER than me, her hips are also smaller than mine [though that's not so much of a news flash; I have big hips] and as for the shoulder padding, I had to get someone else to get it off me because it was just too small. How does she stay upright in a wind?!) - I actually did pretty well. Made a couple of good saves/clearences, and while the opposition did score, it was in the first five minutes and after that point, I pretty well had everything covered. In fact, I did sufficiently well that Jo (team captain) did ask me if I could play next week, too! However, from the twinges and stiffness I'm now suffering with, I'm glad I said no. I think I might be able to manage the odd match every now and then (and two in two weeks doesn't come under that heading), or the odd training session every once in a way, but I can't go back to playing week in week out, and as well as I did today, I don't enjoy wearing the kit enough to want to risk the pain.

The upside is that I'm less tired than if I'd been umpiring (only needed two hours' sleep this afternoon, as compared to some weeks where I've come in and slept for five or six), but that's not a big enough upside to counteract the downsides I mentioned above.

Ah well. I worked out most of my depression at not being able to play over the summer and I am (now that I'm really getting to grips with it) starting to mostly enjoy umpiring so at least I've not stopped altogether.

On to other business. This is gaked off [livejournal.com profile] weirdweb and [livejournal.com profile] estirose:

How did you first hear of/meet me?

Where and when did you first hear my name/see my work/meet me? with what people/series/groups etc. do you associate me and my writing? This is not a praise or feedback meme, this is just to track the path of my online presence and to see the connections involved, to find out how people link together.

I think I know MOST of the answers to this, but I'm interested to see if I'm right!
