A Year In Review...
Dec. 8th, 2006 02:33 pmWell, since everyone's doing a review, I thought I'd get mine in - but since my opening lines are about the most meaningless (to say nothing of rambling - witness this effort, for starters!), I figured I'd be...a lumberjack different.
So here's the 2006 meme
What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
Visited Wells and Glastonbury - which is really all kinds of odd, given that I've lived in this part of the world almost all my life (give or take stays in Manchester for university).
Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
*looks back at resolutions list posted in LJ* Some and some. The list was as follows:
1) Lose weight/get fit - I did this, but not consistantly.
2) Do more submissions for Shadow Games - They were done; they were sent; they generated a deafening silence.
3) Finish more stories -
-Five by Five - This was finally wrapped up very early in the new year. Yay me!
-Mistletoe and Wine - *giggles hysterically* Next!
-A Chinese Adventure - The first draft was finished at the end of October. Yay me!
-Isard's Grip - Errrrrr... Next!
-Soaring Eagle - I'm actually working on this today (please, no-one faint at this!) and I have now got a really good idea of what it's going to take to wrap it up. I still have some 24 days of 2006 to do this in, so, who knows...
Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not yet - but I have my fingers crossed for someone
Did anyone close to you die?
Not that I can think of.
What countries did you visit?
America.
What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
A book published (this is what I said last year, actually!) and very possibly a new job.
What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I did a lot of memorable things over the year, but none of the dates really stick out so much as the people I was with.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Toss up, really, between finally finishing Five by Five, finishing A Chinese Adventure and completing NaNo
What was your biggest failure?
Properly keeping up with OU this year. Half my TMAs were late in on my main course (which, by the by, I still don't know if I've passed or not) and I've slipped behind on my current course - although I'm hoping to make that time up this weekend.
What was the best thing you bought?
Has to be my authentic New Jersey cowboy hat *grin*
Whose behavior merited celebration?
Far too many to name
Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
There are one or two people in this category - however, I know none of them personally
Where did most of your money go?
Excellent question; fluffed if I know!
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I *SHOULD* have been really, really, really excited about the Bon Jovi concert in the summer, various outside things prevented that. Other than that: Getting to meet new people, gatherings and vacations.
What song will always remind you of 2006?
Hooooooboy. Probably "Vigil In A Wilderness of Mirrors" by Fish.
Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? No change.
ii. thinner or fatter? I am thinner, though possibly not as much thinner as I'd have liked!
iii. richer or poorer? Probably a little poorer, financially
What do you wish you'd done more of?
Actually, I can't think of anything. I guess I could have written more, but I have been fairly damn productive on that front this year so...
What do you wish you'd done less of?
Maybe travelling - but only in the sense of I really wish I could just teleport myself places rather than having to drive/fly!
How will you be spending Christmas?
Quietly, with the 'rents and the bother.
Did you fall in love in 2006?
Nope
How many one-night stands?
My only bed-mate has been feline - and that's generally only until I kick her off! So none.
What was your favorite TV program?
TV? What is this TV that you speak of?
Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Yes, but that's mostly because one of our majorly annoying clients has had a change of personnel, so a couple of people have left my shit list, but new people have replaced them.
What was the best book you read?
Prose Edda - Snorri Sturluson
What was your greatest musical discovery?
I think that would have to be getting Fish's first solo album, Vigil. That really was a musical discovery, in that I knew I liked Fish's voice and what he'd done with Marillion, but I wasn't sure what direction his solo stuff would have taken. I needn't have worried!
What did you want and get?
To spend time with my friends, where ever they are.
What did you want and not get?
A free Nickelback t-shirt...
What was your favorite film of this year?
Uhhh. You know? I'm not sure I have one this year. I guess probably X3 as best film with The Salena Incident falling into the "so bad it's hysterical" category.
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I haven't yet. I will be 28 in eight days' time, though. We'll probably dig the Christmas decorations out and that'll probably be the limit of my excitement.
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Getting Shadow Games published. I'm not quite prepared to give up on it, but I think I'm probably going to leave it alone, at least for a little while.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
Comfortable.
What kept you sane?
Sane? Who the hell says I'm sane?!
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Daniel Southworth. Which was the same answer I gave last year, too, I expect!
What political issue stirred you the most?
I don't do politics online.
Who did you miss?
ganeris and family and the rest of the folks in PA - although that was only for parts of the year, seeing as I did get to see them twice this year!
Who was the best new person you met?
I met a lot of very nice new people this year, one way or another. I think they were all the 'best'. (Copout? Why yes, yes it is!)
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006.
That no matter WHERE I go, I will always have at least one person ask my advice about *something*. And invariably, I'll probably know the answer, too!
Quote a song lyric.
"When I was young my father told me just the bad guys died; at that time, just a little white lie; it was one of the first but it hurt me the most" - Fish - "Vigil In A Wilderness of Mirrors"
And, in the interests of surealness...
I say it's ironic because, in so far as I have a particular doctor, this would be mine. *grin*

Date: 2006-12-08 02:51 pm (UTC)(Hope it does keep you awake - assuming that is a good thing, of course [and heaven knows, I've had some classes were it certainly wasn't! - the ones being taught by the Missing Link particularly spring to mind])
Now, what would be impressive is if you were singing it actually IN Breton... *ducks*

Date: 2006-12-08 05:14 pm (UTC)I suspect Breton Christmas carols may be sadly lacking in lumberjacks - but tis always fun to sing in another language. *still recalls the swahili she learned for a school concert when she was nine*
