Circular First Impressions
Nov. 2nd, 2009 06:16 pmI am SUCH a geek.
I picked up the new Bon Jovi album this evening. (This does not make me a geek, btw, merely a fan who couldn't be doing with Amazon [yes, I know I could have gotten it cheaper that way, but by going into HMV tonight, the album's actually in my sticky paws].)
Naturally, I popped it into the car stereo so's I could listen to it on the drive home. (Nor does this render me a geek - although I'm always waffly about listening to new albums in the car as I have a dreadful tendency to concentrate more on the music than on what I'm doing which, while driving, is NOT a good plan!)
No. What makes me a geek is listening to thirty seconds of the opening track and going "I know which writing partnership did this one!"
I've just looked at the liner notes and sure enough, I was right.
I also have a feeling that this album is going to join New Jersey and Bounce as being a BJ album of choice. Don't get me wrong, I like the whole back catalogue, but NJ and Bounce are the two albums that I can listen to at ANY time (toss in Stranger in This Town, Marillion's Clutching At Straws and Pink Floyd's Pulse and you've pretty much got my Desert Island Discs list, actually!) and, at least on the strength of the first four tracks (the drive home from HMV isn't long enough for more!), I think The Circle's going to join that elite list.
I definitely already like it more than I did Lost Highway - LH suffered, a little bit, from too much mush for me; I'm not opposed to country, but I'm a gal who likes to rock'n'roll and sorry but a love duet between JBJ and Leann Rhimes is just wrong on so many counts!
In fact, I think I may just be hooked all over again.
